While the natural cuartz will resist scratches from knives and utensils, a cutingooard will prolong the appearance of the surface and make it easier to keep clean. Most household chemicals do not affect quartz surfaces, but there are some that should be avoided. Products such as draincleaners, oven cleaners, paint removers/strippers which contain methylene chloride or other chemicals with a high alkaline/PHevel should be removed immediately with warm water and detergent, Even brief contact with these substances can causedamage to a quartz surface.
